Grandiose avalanche of the speed thrash! In the chronology after Anvil and Exciter, Razor are the next giant icon of Canadian metal with velocity. They never failed to deliver prime material to bang your head to with a sound of their own, within the realms of Slayer, Metallica, Exciter... The last two albums are the least exciting, while all the other albums are each a classic. The only use of the Exhumed compilation are the two tracks from the 1984 EP, not available on CD. My ultimate trilogy is Executioner`s Song, Violent Restitution and Shotgun Justice: rough and catchy speed metal like Abattoir, dominant thrash metal of the Slayer sort, and faster & excessively aggressive thrash with a crossover touch - always with these killer, mincing riffs. Amazing slice of history and awesome source of skull crushing into the crypts of triplazer forever!

     Stigmartyr Records, Ant[ICON] - SMR 001, ICON 001
     Reissue from 2007
Terror thrasher! Maturation and distillation of 80s speed & thrash behind the Iron Curtain resulted in this high caliber gem. This is the Russian take on the early Atheist sound or the Sadus destruction with a Kreator-Terrible Certainty sauce, and machine-guns of Wehrmacht. Technical & very intense thrash metal of the killer riffage sort, with the restless rhythmic attack and venomous vocals that make it deadlier! This is more or less what you'd expect from an ancestor of the Vektor | Black Fast generation. Maximum thrashonaut forever in the zeriverse!
Achtung, this CD is a mere vinyl rip. If anyone has a pointer to the more recent remasters, the universe would become even more beautiful.
{EDIT} Torrent link in the comments for the 2014 remaster from source DAT. It is strangely not as great as this LP rip.

Bastard

Bastard - Back To The Nature - 1977 01. Bastard - Back To The Nature, 1977 Vinyl LP Album
     London Records - DL-3019
If you think they sound like the album cover looks like, you are right. This is 70s almost-hard rock, not particularly wild nor original (at all). It is just a pleasant nostalgia trip (again). They can't be anyone's favorite band for the lack of exploding hits on this record (I don't know the other one), but when you've heard enough Blüe Öyster Cult, Sweet and Pat Travers for the day, you may switch to Bastard. Excellent long highway trip soundtrack!

In the glory days of prehistory (no youtube! no bandcamp! oh!), record reviews in fanzines & magazines were a great way to get introduced to new releases. So when I read a super negative review of Vopo's Conquer ("horrible racket from a bunch of punks") from a "journalist" openly fan of Bon Jovi, I knew this was a record for me, and hunted it down (merci Record Mail!). And I was right! I never ceased to worship Conquer for its amazingly catchy alliance of punk and heavy metal. Brilliant song writing, awesome riffs & choruses, excessively memorable headbanging! And unbeatable horrible artwork as any classic LP of the 80s should have. The monster is like the fusion of Tank, English Dogs, Warfare and The Exploited still totally relevant in 2016. Dead Entertainment is much less exciting, but its rerecorded songs on The Price Of Being Young are really great (the rerecorded songs of Conquer are totally amazing). Brand New is another demonstration in high energy punk rock and should not be bypassed. Too bad their reunion did not produce anything else. If you like Bat and The Blood, try Vopo's. Metalopunkizer triplazer forever thrasher!

Four decades of hard rocking NWOBHM and still kicking! Yes, they're touring! In the beginning, they were celebrated as the new Led Zeppelin with more meat. But it was eventually Def Leppard, Iron Maiden and Saxon who got the crown while Diamond Head, Angel Witch, Holocaust, Tygers Of Pan Tang and everybody else went on the quest for the perfect riff, igniting the speed metal on the way. Evidence lies in these legendary hard rock releases that further the eternal cause of headbanging! Even the more commercial Canterbury that you are supposed to loathe is excellent. Back to the future with a neck ache!
