2020 CD Album Bang The Head Records - BTH-066 02. Gastunk - Vintage Spirit, The Fact, 2021 CD Mad Indian Recordings - DQC-9055 Christmas in July! Two legendary 80s bands back with their new offerings: ZER! Or almost. I must admit the Gastunk leaves me... disappointed. As a total fan of everything they released previously, this new album is a bit weak. They still deliver the hard rocking groove they evolved after their classic initial punk & thrash sedimentation, but this is much less juicy, less captivating than Mother or the immense live albums from the 90s. Maybe the album is too long with too many fillers. A couple of great songs with the Gastunk trademark, but the rest is mostly average... Not bad, but I expected to be thrown out of my chair. Which happened with the monumental Jurassic Jade. This one is a complete winner, a treasure of absolutely perfect JJ crossover thrash. I am tempted to award it the "best Jurassic Jade album" gold medal, but that must be the excitement of novelty. Advanced writing, perfect delivery, maximum energy, superb production, great artwork, no idea about the lyrics. Awesome thrash metal and much more! Makes me as wet as the latest Shellshock. Their sound is very consistent in its zeritude and manufacture : plain, fast-picking Bay Area-inspired thrash metal with a crossover edge that collides with Shellshock and Attitude Adjustment, and a touch of the most metallic Rose Rose vibe. The most recent material delivers of course a modernized take on their own sound and brings in increased power, complexity and headbanging - and some Slayer riffs that reduce Repentless to ashes, not that it is very difficult to achieve. Very catchy and infectious stuff! Intensity and speed! Outstanding delivery of neck breakage! Japanese thrash über alles! NB: taking off - the slow pace of posting of the past couple of weeks will decrease even further in the next two weeks. Be patient. Read a book, crucify a statist.
