Incantation is also the grandmother of war metal along with Nuclear Death, Blasphemy, Sadistik Exekution and a couple of other war machines. Thickness of the sound, primitiveness of the riffs, relentlessness of the pounding, cannibalistic vocals: all the ingredients are there to satisfy the craving of sonic evil. Incantation can be proud of their longevity, they reside on the orbit of the giants of primitive death of the 90s with Grave and Asphyx for still sustaining the production of so much classic, plain and extra heavy death metal. Nothing technical, only crushing, disgust and hate! And the songs manage to remain catchy (to a degree). Favorite album? Very hard to say. The novelty effect makes me lean on the newest masterpiece, but I just played their first three releases and they rip as much. Sure, Incantation cannot be blamed for surprising their audience, innovation and evolution are not their main weapons. But do we care? There is plenty of exciting weird new stuff released everyday. Then the classic sound of Incantation is always welcome, always efficient and always fulfilling when a return to the basics is in order.
