The very aptly named Guillotine Terror have delivered great crust attacks with their two albums from the 90s. If you enjoyed Kuro, early Crow and Crude SS or very early Anti Cimex, the primitive hardcore bash on these two releases will make your day. Then after a long pause GT returned with an invincible series of the same thing but enhanced and improved with a metal angle - add Raging Fury and modern Crow to the list of references, maybe Attitude Adjustment too. Still plain and simple but with more headbanging, absolutely killer stuff! The latest output (the 3 EPs from 2016 and the last album) is mellower, we get here a more hard rocking vibe and less of the thrashing. There are even covers of pop songs, not their shiniest moment if you ask me, but with such a history of heavy crunches, it'll pass for now. Anyway that last album grows on you, and you take another serving once the initial surprise is processed. Then they disappeared and 15 years later they resurfaced with a monster of an album - my favorite of the three - that is more thrash metal oriented than its ancestor, a mandatory stop for Dead Head and Hellwitch fans. The latest EP returns to death metal, still with the touch of thrash that makes the whole discography so headbangable. Not a lot of originality, but a load of passion, expertise in songwriting and execution, and a bulldozing energy that never diminishes. The Kiss and Iron Maiden covers were maybe not necessary.
