The Beast - Demos And Rarities,
2021 CD Compilation Limited Edition Nervous Breakdown Records - NBR002 In 1983, the Power Metal EP by The Beast was all the rage in fanzines and in tape trading circuits. I was never able to find a copy and settled for third generation tapes. In 1984 I bought a copy of the Born To Metalize 4 way split, where the The Beast section is by far the best. But that was still not enough, because The Beast rules! So, almost 40 years later, Nervous Breakdown Records deserve mighty zerificating praises for this brilliant 21 songs compilation that contains the PM songs plus the BTM songs and demos from 1983 to 1986, packaged with a great booklet. Now if one never heard The Beast, what is to be expected? Rough and intense classic heavy metal with bursts of speed metal and zero ballad and an affinity with punk rock over-the-topness might be a fair elevator pitch for The Beast. A hybrid of early Abattoir, Razor, Iron Maiden w/Di-Anno demos and a Dead Boys vibe might wrap it up. Some of these songs would not have been out of place on Fistful Of Metal and the entire thing could have been on Neat Records. This is fucking superior triplazering headbanging mania! ReplyDeleteI've still got the Mutha Records disc in storage. Can't wait to hear how this
reissue sounds, and all of the extra goodies...
Zer to the Zerrrrrrr
Just realized this doesn't actually have the EP also, but
Deletenot really an issue at all. This is still going to be tons of fun.
Not sure what your mean. The 4 songs from the Power Metal EP are featured on this CD (last 3 tracks plus track 10).

Totally unfamiliar with this band, and I've been into this stuff since early 80's. Not meant to detract, but meant as a compliment, this contains all the elements of the first two Iron Maiden albums that makes those records masterpieces. After those two Maiden records there is nothing worth owning by them. Great stuff!!!! Great post!!!!
ReplyDeleteCheers! Agreed, although in my book Number Of The Beast and Live After Death are great.
