Morsüre - Acceleration Process,
1985 Vinyl LP Album Devil's Records - MAD 2014 A couple of posts ago, I had nasty words for the 80s French punk bands. Obviously, the same case could be made against the 80s French metal bands. Many of them sucked incredibly, while others were amazing. Morsüre sit on the fine fence between incredible and ugly. My problem with this record has always been the abominable sound of the drums (which 1) were artificially accelerated in the studio 2) recorded using electronic pads; these two unfathomable sins cannot be redeemed). They sound horribly thin and plastic, and they definitely ruin the whole album. On the other hand, the music is a barrage of vicious thrash metal of Teutonic influence with rather nasty & complex riffs mixed with a crossover angle more competent than early Cryptic Slaughter. And for once with a French band (from the 80s), the vocals sound good, like a middle-ground between early Voïvod and early Assassin. Early, early, early. It's 1985! Fast, loud and merciless record! If it were not for the horrible drums, this would be a classic. Remove brackets and unzip: [axel et les rations] !ZER Morsüre ZER! |

I'm down with the awful "drums". Makes it different enough to be kind of interesting to these ears. Agreed real drumming would much improve things, but this is what we've got, so what the hey. Thanks for the post.
