As soon as I put the needle on Wild Cat for the first time, I was in awe. The (very) young me had just found another gem of the magnitude of Iron Maiden, Bomber and Wheels Of Steel and it was a great day. The rough, non-melodic vocals of Jess Cox (that earned them some awful reviews from the press, but were gold to a fan of punk rock) and the killer riffs made my day. Wild Cat is a terrific headbanger classic! The next two albums are almost equally great in rocking energy, you just had to adapt to the new singer, a true heavy metallist this time. After Spellbound (of which my LP is rather worn out with two massive bumps that I had to edit out and you can hear it - I strongly advise to settle for the CD version), things deteriorated very strongly, by 1984 they seemed to have chased the elusive radio success and become some ugly Def Leppard wannabees. I may be wrong, I never listened to these albums again, but my memory of their mid/late 80s albums makes me very reluctant to try again. Pointers to any good stuff not present in this post are welcome. Then they retired. Then they came back - do not miss the formidable Live At Wacken - and the last three albums are just heavy metal gold (pun semi-intended). Absolutely classic hard rocking stuff! Except for the occasional ballad. NB: as a rule, on all albums you can just skip the awful ballad. No ballad on Wild Cat! Tygers of eternal Top Ten Hard Rock City! Fist in the air!
