Mallet-Head - Mallet-Head, 1988 Vinyl LP Album Frontier Records, Old Nick Records - FLP 1030, FLP 1030 02. Mallet-Head - Yeah-Yeah-Yeah, 1990 CD Album Frontier Records - 4624-2-L Ex Gang Green members gather and unite to produce two albums of excellent hard rock: zer. Standard, but energetic with minimal cheese - no ballad. Nobody's going to write a memoir about Mallet-Head, but they still rock more and better than many established acts. The solidity in these songs - from writing to performance to production - must satisfy the fan of early 80s hard rock, it's just rough enough to avoid the layers of cheese that too often garnish this genre and catchy enough to maintain eyebrow curvature. The scariest part in this kind of bands is the singer - Mallet-Head have one excellent vocalist who knows how to handle his windpipes while not sounding like one of those gay ass glam singers. This is true hard rock with strong riffs, rhythmic drive and passionate singing, it kicks and sweats, it is not Wrathchild. For references, I'll loosely throw around Led Zeppelin, Twisted Sister, Angel Witch, the Rods, you get the idea. They could have reached much higher peaks of fame, had they come out 10 years earlier. Excellent job! Rock on! Remove brackets and unzip: [zerzerzer] !ZER Mallet-Head ZER! |
