Flotsam And Jetsam - The End Of Chaos, 2019 CD Album AFM Records - AFM 668-9 Speed metal forever! F&J delivered a superb performance on Sunday night in Montreal, they expertly played a well balanced mix of classics and newer songs. 35 years later, they are at the top of their art (just like Anvil, who we saw two weeks earlier). The old guard does not back down! This was a lesson in metal. Of course with such a lengthy discography, they selected what most fans expect the most, ie. almost nothing from the fantastic 90s albums. From Cuatro to High, one can hear convergences to the sound of such bands as Soundgarden, and it was not very well received by the denim-and-patch-wearing crowd. I love these albums more than No Place For Disgrace, whose 2014 re-recording I like a lot more. Now, there is no album I do not like here, they are all great to amazing. I have a slight problem with the production of When The Storm and Unnatural Selection - that nasty overwhelming kick-drum may ruin a couple of songs, which remain extremely solid but are more enjoyable in a live setting. So it's hard to make recommendations to a beginner. Of course Doomsday is the mandatory entry, then Drift and High, and everything since the awesome The Cold is to be tried at least once if you are in a powerful, melodic, crunchy heavy metal mood. All albums feature at least one mega-hit, some of them are entirely made of hits. With Metal Church and Agent Steel, Flotsam And Jetsam rule!
