Helstar - This Wicked Nest, 2014 CD Album AFM Records - AFM 467-2 Ripped By Ilijan 10. Helstar - Vampiro, 2016 CD Album EMP Label Group - ELG-13 Requested, zerred. I mail ordered the first album because of its raving reviews, and was pretty disappointed (no pre-screening through youtube in 1984): I had expected something more along the lines of Satan and Mercyful Fate, but Burning Star was less exciting, it was "only" another version of the Priest / Maiden formula. Ah, but after that, on Remnants of War they greatly enhanced the heaviness of their output and all was well, I was hooked on their heavy heavy metal. That is phase one. Upon their return in 2007, phase 2 started with a rerecording album of 80s songs (Pasts of the Sin), well well well, and then, bam, they went on full thrash metal with the last four albums. They did not loose that melodic vibe that always pleases fans of Metal Church, the songs are still as catchy and crunchy, but they added a strong Death Angel angle to their arsenal and it makes for a handful of very strong albums, especially the latest one Vampiro. If you are into the likes of Flotsam & Jetsam and Forbidden, phase 2 of the Helstar catalog is a mandatory stop. If you are into more regular heavy metal, phase 1 is a must - except maybe for the average, demo-sounding Multiples of Black. But really, the whole collection is greater than great. More headbanging for the young and the old! All these years, all this metal! Remove brackets and unzip: [zerstar] !ZER Helstar ZER! |

I think I'll order 3 of them today.
Haha, not untrue. The artwork is pretty awful too...
DeleteI'm afraid links by items 5 and 6 are wrong.
ReplyDeleteFixed. Thanks for the tip.
