Napalm Death - Time Waits For No Slave, 2009 CD Century Media - 8545-2 20. Napalm Death - Utilitarian, 2012 CD Century Media - 9981652 It was a quiet Summer day in 1987. To this day, there had been the very fast attacks of Lärm, Siege, Heresy or Wehrmacht, the heavy barbarism of Discharge, Rattus or G.I.S.M., and the apocalyptic guttural evil of Possessed, Bathory or Death. And S.O.B. and Cryptic Slaughter. Then the postman, human being's best friend, delivered me that letter from a tape-trader pen-pal which included a recording of a BBC show featuring a very British sounding man talking about a band called Napalm Death. Yeah, another band in "Death" (the alternative to bands in "or"), blablabla. And then the music started. My jaw dropped twelve floors, and I played the tape seven times in a row just to be sure. Barbarizer of the mega armaggeddon death!!! All the previously mentioned qualities concentrated into one band, would that mean the end of times and the final conclusion to the concept of music ? So yeah, grindcore was born, and the Peel Sessions rule the Universe. ND's discography can then be divided into four sections : the mandatory, legendary, skull-crushing Lee Dorian-grindcore, the 90s death metal (not my favorite... I've always had rather hear Autopsy...), the 90s (starting at F.E.D.) modernized groovier death metal (very good despite the bad reviews) and then the fantastic return in 2000 to first grade, world class pulverizing and advanced grindcore - brutally catchy and almost melodic under the nuclear attack, varied enough to keep one's eyebrows peeled and curved. ND own it to the bone. So far my favorite two releases of 2012 are the third Terrorizer "Hordes Of Zombies" and ND's "Utilitarian", their newest and superior piece of music in this olympic discography. The first time I saw ND was in Tampa while they were recording Harmony at Morrisound Studios. They did a preview show with Atheist and another band (got there late so missed them).
ReplyDeleteFunny part was the drum kit Mick was using started coming apart halfway through the set - it just wasn't up to the brutality inflicted upon it.

Fab

ReplyDeleteZer thanks for posting so much of the music i've lost and had stolen over the years keep it up, cheers!!!
ReplyDeleteJust ran across this, really really impressive selection, and with the right attitude about quality[high res rips and FLAC]
ReplyDeletecan see myself getting more, stuff I have on vinyl but never find the time to rip...
the ND Peel session downloads OK, size is 151,984Kb, but with 7-zip is says 'cannot open file as archive'
Is this a problem with 7-zip or a corrupted file?
One suggestion, list correct size of file, easier to check if file has D/L OK
which is the password to extract the files of napalm death please
ReplyDeleteFriend, isn't it time for you to re-edit Napalm Death? How can I live without it?
