I had wanted to pay homage to Alchemist for a long time. Today is the day for this incredible band. Right from the first album, I was floored (despite the painful section with female vocals - the single bad thing in their whole discography). They've been tagged "progressive death metal" or "avant-garde" or some other phrase that would not do justice to their sound, style and general awesomeness. Every album is a classic. The first two are of course rawer and more aggressive than the rest - Lunasphere is their heaviest. I couldn't tell which one is "the best" - probably the Levitation Hex, a highest mountain of magnificence full of eternal riffs with a heavier and more memorable approach than the last Alchemist releases. Buy it! Vinyl snobs can also get the LP with all the cracks and pops from High Roller. Let's sacrifice cats to the hidden forces of the Unizer so that The Levitation Hex makes many more albums. Unique zerness at the highest altitudes of advanced metal!

  3. The 'Death metal' genre, eh? Why not ruin your otherwise really great intricate heavy music by putting unlistenable & unintelligible vocals over the top of it?
