At the very highest peak of Mountain Zer, where the very few sit and shine on the rest of us, The Beyond occupy a very large and comfortable bench. I don't think human vocabulary can describe the width and height of the waves of zerness that overwhelm my meat when The Beyond invade the soundscape. From a dimension not disconnected from the heat of Victims Family and the cold of Tool, The Beyond pour the largest cargo of timeless awesomeness. Now you can hear eternity and addiction occurs. Crawl is an unbreakable and perfect demon diamond. Note that the two versions do not differ only by packaging (plastic vs. digipack). The song order is different, version 1 has a song not on version 2, version 2 has two songs not on version 1, the sharks are different. And version 2 has a different and better mix. You need both. Among the legions of underrated bands, The Beyond is the largest proof that God does not exist. But we have The Beyond, we win.

Old request, new zerification. I haven't posted any CA so far because I am not such a big fan. Sure, CA deliver pissed off, raw, thrashing hardcore in the vein of early Sick of It All or SFA, but it does not do much on my neuron. Anyway, this is very competent and angry, a prototype of the style. But I'd rather blast some Sadus for now.

Crux

Crux - Řev Smrti 1993
01. Crux - Řev Smrti , 1993 CD Album
     Leviathan Records - LVR CD-029
     Reissue from 2000
Be John Lennon for a minute and imagine: Quorthon and Tom Angelripper have a son. He joins Bulldozer and instead of The Day Of Wrath, they release Řev Smrti, and instead of calling themselves Bulldozer, they chose the moniker Crux, and they move from Italy to the Czech Republic. So yes, this is a truly awesome black thrashing album, and it is actually a little more musically sophisticated than the early-Bulldozer analogy. It came out a decade later after all. And it has great "melodic" sections (as in "Blood Fire Death's slow passages"). Disciples of Cultes Des Ghoules and other sleazy purveyors of the black mark applaud and revere Crux! Thrash til black zer!

From the smoldering archives of classic US hardcore punk, Capitol Punishment return to the frontispiece of the Church. While the last two albums are more quiet and smooth in a good way, the early stuff is the raw material you need to get some teeth cracked, and the neuron happy. Would it be blasphemy to say they share the spirit, energy and class of M.D.C.? No, it wouldn't. And these records have aged as greatly. Completely beta zer rocking punk thrash!

Like 1984 and Animal farm, Harrison Bergeron never looses its relevance.
I put 9 stars to the 2009 short version:

But watch out, it looks like it deserves only 1 star:
This film left me with a sick feeling. If you enjoy the experience of a so called artist being sick on your face by all means watch it. Its only saving grace is it doesn't last too long and then you can go for a walk or something to clear your mind. I'm sure there are people out there will think this is deep, meaningful, artistic and profound but I suspect they wouldn't know profound if it hit them in the face. Of course there are plenty of 'messages' in here delivered without a trace of irony. They're the bleak, nihilistic, humourless, hopeless, depressing one's we see all too much on the screen these days. Who funds this crap? If you want to feel excited and empowered, have your imagination stimulated, be surprised and entertained I'd look elsewhere if I were you.

1995 long (and extended into a new interpretation) version:

Here is another great short version from 2006 (lauded by the author of the original 1961 short story).

I had wanted to pay homage to Alchemist for a long time. Today is the day for this incredible band. Right from the first album, I was floored (despite the painful section with female vocals - the single bad thing in their whole discography). They've been tagged "progressive death metal" or "avant-garde" or some other phrase that would not do justice to their sound, style and general awesomeness. Every album is a classic. The first two are of course rawer and more aggressive than the rest - Lunasphere is their heaviest. I couldn't tell which one is "the best" - probably the Levitation Hex, a highest mountain of magnificence full of eternal riffs with a heavier and more memorable approach than the last Alchemist releases. Buy it! Vinyl snobs can also get the LP with all the cracks and pops from High Roller. Let's sacrifice cats to the hidden forces of the Unizer so that The Levitation Hex makes many more albums. Unique zerness at the highest altitudes of advanced metal!

God save the thrash! Deathwish were not very prolific, but their two albums are either excellent, or amazing. The second is almost a classic. On a good day, it is a true classic. Deathwish deliver generic second-half-of-the-80s thrash metal that could have emerged from a Hallow's Eve | Onslaught joint venture. Incisive thrash with a thin crust of melodies, bang that head til zer!

I figured a No Security reload would be most satisfying after the Doom post. This is what I had to say in 2008 about this compilation :
"Almost complete discography CD of the heroes of the 2nd wave of Swedish discharge-core bands. No Security are the missing link between the initial aggression of Mob 47 and the new generation of Skitsystem, Wolfpack, Disfear etc. Which means the true dbeat fan is not allowed not to possess this collection of murderous hardcore attacks. Über ZERRRRR!!!"

At long last, it is Doom's day. They are probably the most famous first generation Discharge imitators. This is semi classic, since nobody can outdischarge Discharge. But Doom are an excellent prelude to second generation Discharge clones like Skitsystem, Disfear, Wolfpack. Nowadays I lost tracks of the Discharge clones family tree, I don't know who the leaders of the third generation are. So I'll stick to Doom and the second generation to fulfill my lust for crust, until the next Discharge craving erupts.

Per request and with gentle grease, here comes the US doom Wretched (not to be confused with the Italian super heroes). Wretched were a cousin of the St-Vitus | Count Raven family branch of metallic doom rock. The vocals are pretty strange, and I love it. It is all rather slow, but not funeral-slow and the whole thing remains catchy and groovy like an elephant in transit. If you like Lost Breed, Pale Divine and this sort of things, Wretched is on the menu. Fist in the air with anvils!

For the very first time and upon request, let's zerify Token Entry and their A-grade 80s US HC. Jaybird is your typical Gorilla Biscuits | Insted posi-core sounding album and it still fucking rocks. When i was young, I preferred it a lot to the Weight of the World, but 40 lbs later, not anymore. Weight is more mature, more rocking, more solid, less basic hardcore: it's a third album. With a better singer, they could have conquered the world with this prototype of late 80s mildly hip-hop, funk, hard rocking beast. Killer Token Entry! No, I do not have the first album. Never even heard it! Unzer! But these two will suffice for your next party. Zer!
