Metal Hammer, Nuclear Blast - none, none
Unbelievably, this is the first actual Kreator post in 11 years of Zer Churching. If you do not know who Kreator are and what kind of noise they make, you are too young, too drunk or too Martian. Kreator is a pillar of the Teutonic thrash metal industry, one of the four biggest acts with Sodom, Destruction and Tankard - a very large icon of 80s thrash. And like their ancient colleagues, they are still alive and prolific. There is no bad album in their discography, even the 90s experiments (Outcast, Renewal, Endorama) are very good, these ones not being the usual raging thrash mania they developed during their first decade, which is natürlich my favorite segment of their output. My über favorite entry is of course Pleasure To Kill: Endless Pain was no match to Hell Awaits or Infernal Overkill, but Pleasure To Kill corrected this instantly. My teenage self was floored by such a level of brutality and this record immediately entered the sacred pantheon of ultimate thrash right along Darkness Descends, Party With God and Reign In Blood. An EZTT thrash classic for sure! The past twenty years saw Kreator getting back to the recipe of virulent thrash metal with a much less raw, more melodic approach than in the 80s. All albums since Violent Revolution are good and great: fast, heavy, crunchy with more twin guitars and other subtleties, less barbaric than the boss Pleasure To Kill . I have a preference for what Sodom did during the same period: less refinements, more bulldozing in the Sodom camp. Probably a consequence of Kreator having the Waltari guitarist in their ranks. Kreator never disappoint, their live performances are killer and they shall remain a large foundation of the thrash metal scene until the end of the zeriverse!
