I did buy a ton of albums without having ever heard one second of the bands - case in point: Impaled Nazarene. I had to know how sounded a band with such a name and such an album title (Ugra Karma, my first encounter with these dudes) so I risked the corresponding Deutsch Marks and mailed my order to Lost & Found with actual bank notes. Three or four weeks later, package delivered and exhilarating ecstasy instantly possessed this present meat. Impaled Nazarene was exactly what the doctor ordered: raw black thrashing punk grinding madness!!! 30 years later, I am still in awe, IN never deeply changed or the evolution was too subtle for me. Sure, some albums are less punk or more black metal than others, but they all convey this particular IN vibe of destruction not without sort of a melodic approach in the riffs (not in the vocals!). The thrash metal riffing is always present, the punk influence always lurks from beneath the body of a fulfilled nun, the Motörizing rears its warty head here and there, the black metal destruction is permanent, this is true evil crossover headbanging bliss. The new album does not betray this decades old tradition, on the contrary: it may very well be their best sonic attack to date, a true world class black thrashing killdozer! This stuff reminds me of SDI and Chronical Diarrhoea, there is something typically Teutonic to their sound. They doubled the bass guitar tracks and panned them L&R, which is rather unusual. The album rocks short basic songs that do not match any Attitude Adjustment, Excel, DRI or any of the big names, it is sloppy and not very virulent, but it is still a fun nostalgia ride if you survived the 80s.
