Thrash til zer! After over three decades of haunting the Japanese underground, Raging Fury are at the top of their game of killer thrash metal. This is not paintball, this is war! Every minute of Raging Fury delivers everything the thrash metal addict wants, needs, craves. While they do not reinvent any established formula, they produce their very own thing with twelve tons of energy per square second. This is pure thrash metal with a melodic approach as in the first Sabbat, Deathrow or Assassin albums, you know, with those early Metallica influences propelled by the turbines of Motörhead. But a more accurate comparison could be made with the most intense bits of Outrage darkened and evilized by the rotörs of G.A.T.E.S., or why not the thrash foundations of Volcano loaded with to the dirt of Forward and Paintbox. The appearance of hardcore bands in this attempt at a list of references should not lead the innocent visitor to think of Raging Fury as a crossover band, they are a pure thrash metal band with a singer who sounds as awesomely Japanese (even in English) as these icons of the punk scene. Raging Fury play compact, catchy, elaborated and sometimes complex, pure thrash metal - no death, no prog, no punk. Perfection and bliss! Ok, I am not sure this lame review does any justice to this incredible band so I'll stop here, too lazy to try again - just download everything and play it louder than everything else! Raging thrashanese triplazering headbanging forever!
NB: FLAC links to the 2002 and 2010 demos are very welcome of course, as well as anything else not appearing in this post.

NRAR: after the Church Of Misery posts scattered here over the years, here comes a general recap with the newest album. Why now? They are playing a live gig tonight and the whole Church Of Zer shall be attending, let us be prepared. If new to Church Of Misery, the key words are: doom, sludge and stoner, with a chronological evolution in that direction. Favorite entry: Thy Kingdom Scum. In 2020, they sound more and more like Corrosion Of Conformity in 1995. The main differences with C.O.C. are:
- the lyrical theme is exclusively about serial killers in a less poetic fashion than Macabre
- a dirtier, less radio-friendly sound and a sludgier approach to the stonerizing
- their drummer is alive
And I hope it remains that way until tonight.

Chrome Molly - You Can't Have It All.......Or Can You?

Chrome Molly - You Can't Have It All.......Or Can You? - 1985 01. Chrome Molly - You Can't Have It All.......Or Can You?, 1985 Vinyl LP
     New Records - NW 2324
To celebrate Saint-Underwear day, let us indulge in textbook 80s heavy metal. Geographically, the NWOBHM tag applies, but these Brits seemed too much interested in the US charts: more Riot and Mötley Crüe than Chateaux and Avenger.  However there is the British Steel thing going on at times, so you decide. In any case while you will discover absolutely nothing new here, the record is still a great catalog of decent, rocking songs with competent delivery and good production (and irritating gang choruses) - except the fucking ballad. I never bothered to listen to any of their other albums (this one is their first), are they good or did they drown into AOR hell?

WAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!! I really wanted to like this band because of the brilliantly absurd name. Very glad the music fits the moniker so perfectly: primitive, barbarian two (sometimes three)-riff songs to compress your spine and crush your skull swiftly and delightfully. If you did not enjoy the Archgoat post, don't bother. On the other hand, if you are interested in hearing cavemen emulating Hellhammer at the speed of Grave with the intent of Incantation, happiness is just two clicks away. Triplawar triplazer tripladeath!

Last Crack

Last Crack - Sinister Funkhouse #17 - 1989
Last Crack - Burning Time - 1991
Last Crack - The Up Rising - 2019

02. Last Crack - Burning Time, 1991 CD Album

03. Last Crack - The Up Rising, 2019 CD Album
     EMP Label Group - ELGCD71
Zergasm alert! To put it simply, Last Crack is the wet dream of the fan of Mind Over Four and Tool. Chronology actually implies it the other way round: Tool is the wet dream of the fan of MO4 and Last Crack, but never mind. 30 years ago, Last Crack released two masterpieces of advanced hard rock, like a Soundgarden for adult or a parallel dimension of Mind Over Four, and disappeared. Sadness. But a mere 28 years later, they graced us with a super fantastic return, without a wrinkle, in full force, more awesome than ever! The music on all Last Crack album is so wonderful that I can bait with other cult references like Chasm from The Beyond and Ignaurus or Seemless from Into Another. I still can't decide which of the three album is my favorite, they all rule. The newest offering has of course the advantage of surprise and novelty. Like its two illustrious predecessors, it delivers only perfect songs, no filler and a great-yet-not-stupidly-compressed production. Maybe it is their best album. It is infectious while not falling into easy songs and radio prostitution, it is sonic velvet without losing its darkness and grip, the musicians and the singer are at the top of their game as if only 2 years had passed since Burning Time. An absolute killer release! It is soooooooo much better than the newest Tool (which works well as a device for somnolence). Let's hope they are on for another couple of albums before 2050. We want more complex melodies from the metallic rock experts of  the zeriverse!
Of course, FLAC links to the live album and the 93/94 demo CD are more than welcome.

03. Unorthodox - Awaken, 2008 CD Album
The Church Within Records - CW 010
Fans of Saint-Vitus and Count Raven, wake up! In operation since 1981, Unorthodox deliver the goods you expect from a workshop on the theme "how to emulate Black Sabbath but not exactly". Slow rocking heavy metal for the Ozzy-era fans with enriched and modernized sections for the Dio-era fans, what else do you need? The overall vibe of Unorthodox is less cold, less metal than Candlemass or Solitude Aeturnus and heavier than Pentagram. Unorthodox were totally at home with Hellhound records, and if you are a fan of the label, you are a fan of the band. Triplazering perfection of the classic doom metal ride!
FLAC links to their releases as Obstination and Asylum are very welcome.
