Here comes the avalanche of doom and death you crave after a grindcore morning and a black metal afternoon. Sludge deliver the variety of elephantiasis among the best there is provided you already worship Triptykon and Cathedral. The last three releases also contains massive echoes of the evil slow bits from Carcass and Entombed (not the stoner rock stuff!). These references only hint at what Sludge do to you, their strong sound firmly standing on its own armoured boots: this is a spotless discography with evolution within the consistency from the high quality Celticathedraltikon to the slow and radioactive carcassed black death. No doubt they composed everything inside one of the nuclear shelters scattered all over Switzerland - best spot to get inspired by oppression, claustrophobia, darkness, angst, madness and hunger. It seems Sludge have now ceased operations and it is too bad the well dried up and the lava solidified, so let's rejoice we at least have these five releases for avid, unrestrained consumption. Axegrinder - Grind The Enemy, 2010 Vinyl LP Unofficial Release Pelvic Alee Records - PA01 05. Axegrinder - Satori, 2018 CD Album Rise Above Records - RISECD221 Requested: rezerred. But wait, there's more! Today on top of the three versions of their classic 1988 monster album, we have Satori, the second album released in 2018. If they release one album every 30 years, I can't wait for the next one in 2048, because Satori is one excellent release. You may not be struck by awe at the first play, but it is highly infectious and shall grow on you if you are an Amebix fan. In those 30 years since the Rise of the Serpent Men, Axegrinder evolved but stayed on track. Satori is as heavy as its predecessor, more sinister, and generally stranger. It is not an experimental album or anything innovative, but they managed to make something original out of standard ingredients - this is art (or luck ? LOL). The riffs are great but not unheard of, the drumming is crushing and slow in a standard way, the vocals are a bit stranger with a couple of very catchy choruses, and the sporadic incursions of keyboards and a female voice are also not the newest thing in town - but the sum of it all is amazing, very personal, and still very much Amebix in the Axegrinder way. This is a superb return with a raw production that lets dynamics exist, and the designated survivor to accompany the output from Deviated Instinct of recent years. Blessed Death - Kill Or Be Killed,
1985 CD Album Limited Edition Numbered Reissue Remastered Metal Mind Productions - MASS CD DG 1034 Reissue from 2007 02. Blessed Death - Destined For Extinction, 1987 CD Album Limited Edition Numbered Remastered Metal Mind Productions - MASS CD DG 1033 Reissue from 2007 03. Blessed Death - Hour Of Pain, 1991 CD Album Blessed Death Productions - none Reissue from 2006 Speed metal day! Once upon a time, there was only speed metal. That was the golden era of heaviosity-with-skull-piercing screams. Blessed Death was one solid pillar of that lost art - heavier and faster than Metal Church without the aridity of Sodom. Amazing and memorable songs with melodies and power and speed, I have been hooked since day one. If you too are into Agent Steel, Cyclone, Anvil Bitch or that first Dark Angel album, let the Blessed Death occupy your aural conduits for a couple of hours. You won't regret it. Pretty Little Flower - Jackhammering Deathblow Of Nightmarish Trepidation, 2018 CD Album Regurgitated Semen Records - RSR191 Ultimate conflagration in the concussing carbonizer!!! Grinding obliteration is just 8 clicks away! PLF are one of these heroic purveyors of short harp blasts of metallic defenestration that we learned to worship through Rotten Sound, Looking For An Answer and other giants of grind. Super fucking speed, perfection in the tightness of the delivery and ultra-intensity of the most vicious sort constitute their trademark, yet they have one particular thing that makes them standout from the crowd: the thrash metal influence that has been growing in each release over the years. The newest album is grindcore with accelerated Dark Angel riffing (EVERYTHING HAS TO FIT INSIDE 37 SECONDS!), a bit in the spirit of that first and legendary Brutal Truth album. Also, all PLF release comes in a great-to-killer, merciless production, and of course the band name is without competition - best moniker in the industry. The t-shirt is in the mail and I can't wait for this shit political lock-down to end so that I can finally get the package and proudly wear PRETTY LITLLE FLOWER while buying my foie gras. In short, if you love grindcore, you cannot afford to bypass PLF, it is one of the very best contemporary values. If you hate grindcore, you need to have your brain rebooted, just START RIGHT NOW WITH PRETTY LITTLE FUCKING FLOWER! This Finnish entity knows how to twist a neuron under a tunnel of swamps. Slow and tortuous or nauseous and tortuous, it depends: in any case, if you like Winter as much as late Coroner, you should not drown and even enjoy every moment of this primitive offering of heaviness (the winterified first album) and this deathrashoïd offering of heaviness (the coronerized second album).
