One can divide it in two segments: the first four albums develop an incredibly exciting mix of advanced thrash metal that reminds equally of Volcano (or the other way round, considering chronology) | Shellshock | United and Mekong Delta | Death Angel | Crown Of Thorns. Add accelerations into Rose Rose and even Protector territory and pour a few anthemic fist-in-the-air rocking songs that would not be out of place on Yasha, Ezo or 90s Loudness albums. From virulent speed aggression to party headbanging with class without losing focus of their sound. In three words: A-MA-ZING. Apocalypse starts to feature the borderline melodic death metal approach that echoes the first two albums from Sentenced and that dominates the last four albums. These ones are heavier, less friendly, with harsher vocals and less of the Japanese touch. At The Gates fans might want to start with this second half of the discography, while addicts to the Japanese delivery of perfection in the headblast should dive into the first half first. The Church is totally sold to the entire discography because it is a solid mine of triplazering gems of perfect thrashification in the zeriverse! From the morbid tales of frosted caves to the martial thrashification of the blackness, CF evolve between the early raw Mayhem | Darkthrone chainsaws and the late Gehenna | Aura Noir machine guns. There is no dull moment, the meat and the bone are constantly engaged while the head bleeds: CF know how to recycle initials and imagery AND riffs, and they package everything with enough guts and disgust to make old recipes spicy again. They are sufficiently parsimonious in their usage of keyboards to keep it ominous and almost useful, production never goes into irritating no-fi-saturation-boombox territory and execution is tight and powerful. You never know with these face painters. Not obsessed with hyper speed, this is a collection of actual songs made to train the neck and the heart into osmosis with the glorious catchy darkness of the 80s augmented with the accuracy and sonic density of the 90s (of evil). From the bottom layer of the grave, Rigor Mortis rocked the 80s with its not-unlike-Hellwitch speed riffing that made them borderline death metal, while maintaining the dark vibe of the heavy thrash metal of Nasty Savage and early Hallow's Eve, with almost as many hooks. A quick introspection reveals to the Church that the favorite entry is still the very first and dominating album for its no-filler thrashalanche is what the thrashonaut needs and never gets enough of. Not that the follow-ups are dispensable and less exciting, it is only an effect of chronology. Then the 2014 return is no disappointment, the power is intact, the musicianship is of course even better, and they were corrupted by no trend: Slaves is first grade 80s thrash metal from the 21st century! This might be the flaw of that great album: no evolution. But for the Church it is an asset, there are zillions of new bands doing the modern stuff, let us enjoy the remnants of the old guard putting it out to the death. Guided Cradle - You Will Not Survive, 2007 CD Album Insane Society Records - IS 081 Does it look like a Bolt Thrower outpost or a black metal monarchy soundtrack? Maybe both? Maybe both. Now the sound involves no black metal at all and only a diagonal hammer-fisting of BT, for Guided Cradle principally deal in Driller Killer | Extinction Of Mankind | Hellshock crustification of the dbeat - so much like Driller Killer that a blind test would prove difficult to separate the two. The punk thrashing bulldozing is augmented with a strong crossover to metal (enough to be featured on the tight ass Metal Archive) and the content of the two albums match the promise of the artwork: dark, menacing, oppressing and heavy, and also catchy and well produced. The template was perfectly instantiated, Guided Cradle know how to replicate the metabolism of the crust thrash of the Discharge and Extreme Noise Terror dynasty.
