From the very depths of doom arises the highly articulated pillar of Birushanah. The initial selling point is that it involves the bass player from Corrupted. But this music defends itself without a sales sheet, it instantly conquers the whole meat of any reasonable ape by its natural concentration of power and seduction. This is not funeral, black doom, it is a deployment of massive massaging riffs touching on early Melvins caterpillars. The melodies of madness compete with the middle age percussion as the tank that flats down this cathedral. The latest album is so addictive one might want to be cautious: play it louder than anything else. Birushanah eats the universe, spits it out, and eats it again until the eternal loop of zer becomes invincible.

  2. This is weird. In a very good way. It has a meditative, trance inducing quality to it. And it's megaton - heavy.
I guess Japan is the place to look for really creative, original sounding music these days.

Thanks again for pointing me to another great band.

    1. Indeed. You captured accurately the feelings I was trying to convey.
Japan rules the sonic universe! Maybe it's only a Westerner feeling towards music that does not even try to sound like generic Relapse/Century Media/Earache assembly line material...

  3. Sam Harris on torture,

    quote:
"I am not alone in thinking that there are potential circumstances in which the use of torture would be ethically justifiable. The liberal Senator Charles Schumer has publicly stated that most U.S. senators would support torture to find out the location of a ticking time bomb. Such scenarios have been widely criticized as unrealistic. But realism is not the point of these thought experiments. The point is that unless your argument rules out torture in idealized cases, you don’t have a categorical argument against torture. As nuclear and biological terrorism become increasingly possible, it is in everyone’s interest for men and women of goodwill to determine what should be done if a person appears to have operational knowledge of an imminent atrocity (and may even claim to possess such knowledge), but won’t otherwise talk about it. "
    endquote.

    1. Sam Harris is unconvincing and wrong on several topics. Eg. his book Free Will and the consecutive lectures are convoluted exercises in intellectual acrobatics.
His and Hitchen's support of the Iraq wars and their generally statist positions contradict the essence of the position of professional atheists about superstition. Molyneux was accurate, most atheists are statists. Except maybe Michael Shermer.
But The End of Faith and related Harris' speeches are reasonably interesting, and it is entertaining to watch him and the other atheist superstars debate godly matters with equally superstar experts in ignorance like Deepak Chopra, David Wolpe or William Lane Craig.

I reject all faith because what is asserted without evidence can be rejected without evidence.

    2. Yes, I do not embrace collective action period. I observe individual behavior as a majority of one is still a majority. The conflict remains statism versus freedom. Beware the witchdoctor/tyrant archetype alliance, as the history of the church remains the history of the state; inseparable.

Thank you for everything you do.

  4. I can't describe how much I love this.

The 3rd song on the latest album, just incredible.

The whole concept is like old Einstürzende Neubauten meet Melvins and Corrupted to play traditional japanese music.
In the quiet parts I can even hear some Mathrock in the vein of A minor Forest. On top of that comes the most effective use of Koto, Shamisen (I think), Flute and Kodo drums... Wow! This is the Zen soundtrack for Noh theater in the 21st century.

On a side note, aou post a lot of great music I would have never heard without your blog. I'd like to give something back.
Since I'm kind of old fashioned and I don't really trust the workings of the internets, I don't have paypal, I'm not blogging, credit cards are evil, etc.

I'd rather send you a bunch of music that I don't think you know but you would like by my guess, in flac of course.

I'd like to post the links in the comments here, if that's OK with you.

You wrote that you'll be going to Chile, will you be able to download stuff, because the links will expire after a couple of days?

    What do you think?
