I always considered "Retaliation" to be a somewhat unheralded classic of the time. Perfectly produced and just as brutal lyrically as it was musically. The earlier stuff just never grabbed me the same way. Kinda like a low-rent Manowar, but (as usual) a great post regardless. Look forward to giving the live stuff a listening to... Cheers and Thanks
ReplyDeleteManowar? I hear a lot more Venom and Tank in the first album. But I have not listened to Manowar since 1985...
DeleteAgreed about the Venom/Tank comparisons, especially Tank... How about Toximia? Hell, the first LP sounds like a better produced sequel to "War".
ReplyDeleteerr, a prequel actually. But nonetheless
ReplyDeleteAh, never heard of Toximia! But after consulting the youtubes, Toximia does belong to the Venom/Carnivore/NME/Bulldozer family. Thanks for the tip.

My friend stole the Retalliation tape from the mall in the late 80's, we were little metalheads, starting to get into punk/hXc. We did't know what to expect from this tape but the cover looked cool! The tape starting off with someone puking in a toilet.... what the hell??? This tape than proceeded to blow us away!!!! What a vile, hateful little slab o' music, I still listen to this record, some 26 years later!!!!!!
