Maple Cross - Heimo, 2007 CD Album Verikauha Records - VKR17037 Finish your Finnish heavy thrash rock! The three albums by Maple Cross are so different, especially the debut vs. the other two, that the title of the second one makes full sense. The Eighth Day is a marvel of the early 90s "fusion metal" sound. One shall find here a mixture of Last Crack and Fishbone rock intersecting with technothrash that would have made Coroner and Forced Entry proud. The heavy parts dominate, morphing with much expert smoothness into the Fishbone parts, and vice versa. This is simply fucking awesome. A decade later, the band resurfaced with a new line-up (the singer is the only constant feature) and an extremely aggressive bomb of hard rocking mania, truly a next chapter in their sonic voyage. "Thrash metal" does not describe it, rather intense and very catchy metallic rock at the level of the roughest of Raven or Anvil but with over the top screams as vocals. The energy in that powerhouse of groove and headbanging can provide light and heating to a whole city for a year. Another fantastic release. The third album is probably the least satisfying at the Church. Despite an influx of actual thrash metal and motörizing, it is somehow a little less intense than its predecessor. Yet it is still a very strong release that can remind of the likes of Gehennah with more sophistication and variation. In all cases, Maple Cross triplazering rock the skull and the backbone in full force until your drop! Remove brackets and unzip: [eighth zer] !ZER Maple Cross ZER! |
