Solitude - Brave The Storm, 2009 CD Album Spiritual Beast - IUCP-16070 04. Solitude - Reach For The Sky, 2015 CD Album Spiritual Beast - IUCP-16220 Bang that head! The first Solitude was a US thrash metal band. Their brand of thrash focused on the heaviness rather than the speed. The demos have that nasty Nasty Savage and Coroner vibe while their sole album From Within becomes a little more melodic to explore the heaviest of what bands like Flotsam & Jetsam or Vicious Rumours were doing in the 90s. As catchy as crunchy, these songs are all killer and no filler while retaining a modernity that makes them 100% relevant 30 years later. From Within could be released today and the Church would not blink, would you? The other Solitude hails from Japan and delivers two monster releases of heavy metal with the thrash metal wrap. Also very heavy and very catchy, their output is simply another entry in the book of perfection for those who dig heavy heavy metal. The heaviest of Loudness and the heaviest of Anthem with rougher vocals await the avid consumption of the metallist. Two magnificent albums that could have been released in the 90s, and the Church would not have blinked. Both bands offer exemplary execution and production with unstoppable headbanging, first quality classic metal is four clicks away. Triplazering bang that head! Maple Cross - The Eighth Day Of Creation,
1992 Vinyl LP Album Not On Label - MCLP-001 02. Maple Cross - Next Chapter, 2003 CD Album Verikauha Records - VKR-17031 03. Maple Cross - Heimo, 2007 CD Album Verikauha Records - VKR17037 Finish your Finnish heavy thrash rock! The three albums by Maple Cross are so different, especially the debut vs. the other two, that the title of the second one makes full sense. The Eighth Day is a marvel of the early 90s "fusion metal" sound. One shall find here a mixture of Last Crack and Fishbone rock intersecting with technothrash that would have made Coroner and Forced Entry proud. The heavy parts dominate, morphing with much expert smoothness into the Fishbone parts, and vice versa. This is simply fucking awesome. A decade later, the band resurfaced with a new line-up (the singer is the only constant feature) and an extremely aggressive bomb of hard rocking mania, truly a next chapter in their sonic voyage. "Thrash metal" does not describe it, rather intense and very catchy metallic rock at the level of the roughest of Raven or Anvil but with over the top screams as vocals. The energy in that powerhouse of groove and headbanging can provide light and heating to a whole city for a year. Another fantastic release. The third album is probably the least satisfying at the Church. Despite an influx of actual thrash metal and motörizing, it is somehow a little less intense than its predecessor. Yet it is still a very strong release that can remind of the likes of Gehennah with more sophistication and variation. In all cases, Maple Cross triplazering rock the skull and the backbone in full force until your drop! Remove brackets and unzip: [eighth zer] !ZER Maple Cross ZER! |

Holyghost - Holyghost,
1999 CD Reissue Deathwish - DWI36 Reissue from 2006 This polymorphous album is an extinct Ringworm side project. It is understandable why it was not released as Ringworm, since it operates in muddier swamps. The metal riffing remains, the pissed off vocals are there, but it is doomier and weirder than Ringworm. There is a coffin punk vibe reminding of Bl'ast! and Swiz between bricks of Cro-Mags and Crown of Thorns. Everything prayed to at the Church. The verdict is: short, nasty and triplazering great! Crypt Sermon - The Ruins Of Fading Light, 2019 File FLAC Album x 10 Dark Descent Records - none Epic doom metal til zer! The slow tide of heavy riffs with the dark flavor of Black Sabbath's Dio era is doing its tectonic work once again. After Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Solstice and other black knights of the very massive heavy metal, Crypt Sermon contribute their share of molten lead to the crusade of the twenty first century legions of doom metal along with Procession, SuuM or Age Of Taurus. Crypt Sermon shine as much as any of their peers or ancestors, the music is absolutely first class, written by true believers in doom and perfectly executed. This type of doom works only with a great singer, but Crypt Sermon actually have a magician who could replace Robert Lowe. Nothing short of fantastic! Now one might wonder what the Unrest album is doing here: its title is not lying, it is unadulterated teeth crunching grindcore of the best sort for Primate and Venomous Concept fans, only with better riffs. The hardcore punk hate with no speed limit vs. classic doom metal to haunt the ruins of cathedrals? Two members of Crypt Sermon are involved in Unrest and both do hard work on your cranium, only through different paths. The Church found it relevant to nurture the love for contrasts. It's like cows and sheep, you need to eat both for a complete diet of zer. Triplazering doom til grind forever! Remove brackets and unzip: [into the crypts] !ZER Crypt Sermon, Unrest ZER! |
