Yes, they were on Metal Massacre 5 in 1984, and yes their records artwork look like entries in the thrash metal index. But, at least to these old ears, they are much more punk than metal. The first album is entirely punk, with noisy guitar solos maybe, but totally punk nonetheless with a taste for speed metal riffing like an overheated infusion of compact Dead Boys and Kraut into a bathtub of Executioner and primitive Zoetrope. The second LP sees Mace intensify the metal riffage and the tempo without throwing out the punk thing and we smile even more because this is great. Competent, rough, angry, straight forward and great. Fans of Genöcide know what I mean. Mace me to a pulp!

  1. Cheers Zer.. I bought the 1st LP in 1987 based upon the front cover and the dude's silly mohawk on the back cover... Their style seemed to be stuck in some weird zeriverse that wasn't quite selling it with the punkers or the bangers, but I can listen to it all day.. "Smoking Gun" and "Drilling For Brains" are my personal faves.
