Back to the future! Early Maiden and Saxon coalesce into a fleshy beast of heavy metal that calls itself Tysondog. They could have been an Ebony records band, but they were a Neat records band. In both cases, I would blindly buy the disc. Cronos even does some back vocals on Beware. Plain, catchy, classic, rocking heavy metal to bang your head to all afternoon! Cry Havoc is a faithful return, a little darker and a little heavier than 30 years earlier, or only modernized. There is also a vibe of sadness in this album, probably due to the more pessimistic-sounding singing. Like the new Avenger, it's a great piece of heavy metal that confirms heavy metal will never die!

  2. Apparently there was much Judas Priest to be listened to in the Tysondog household. The NWOBHM was largely unmemorable to these American ears. It didn't seem to add anything to what had gone before, and the permutations that came afterward were far more interesting too. Much thanks for the posts, regardless.

    1. Tysondog were indeed not making anything original. But back then the quantity of new releases was much smaller than today's, making these bands much appreciated. Once you had listened to your 32 Priest-Motorhead-Saxon-Maiden-Sababth records, anything new and well played was very welcome.

    2. Agreed. Which is why I checked out Tygers of Pan Tang and a couple other NWOBHM bands just to see if there was something else afoot. Not finding anything to my liking, I began backtracking to Hawkwind others in that lot, which I found to my liking. I dig Hawkwind to this day--yes, Mr. Brock is still at it, having released yet another space trip just this year, "Into the Woods".
