Immolation - Acts Of God, 2022 CD Album Nuclear Blast, Nuclear Blast - 63412, 6341-2 Death 'til zer! The grand kings of death are back with a killer album, great timing to zerify their deadly catalog. There was a time when a label logo would be enough to trigger an album purchase, or at least raise a vigorous eyebrow. Atrocity and Immolation are among the last bands to benefit from the aura of Roadrunner, who turned into a sad shit-producing factory shortly after. Dawn Of Possession was growling "I am the new Morbid Angel", and the Church was seduced because it does rip. The definitive hook, the one that would make Immolation a permanent pillar at the Church, is the classic Here In After, a black diamond of intricate morbidity and cold evil. From then on, Immolation only released monsters of perfect death metal. The evolution in their sound is subtle, the riffage getting a bit weirder and more dissonant with time, to culminate on the gigantic Atonement. The new Acts Of God is in a similar vein, maybe a little more from this earth than the other dimension of nietzschean labyrinths. Still a true implosion of dark surgical death metal. The common thread is a persistent echo of Morbid Angel, with all the performance and the power. Thirty five years of triplazering death and the living legend is showing no sign of retirement! Let's burn a trudeau to fuel the black fire for decades to come. Remove brackets and unzip: [deathonizer] !ZER Immolation ZER! |
