Defiled have defied easy tagging for decades, although each release is undoubtedly death metal. It is fairly technical, overloaded with riffs everywhere, production is hostile, artwork is cooler on every album, and execution is exact. Is it the pro-Japan bias that makes the Church so content with this exploding, not particularly catchy stuff? Maybe. Or it is that viciousness in the songs structured as stop & go loops articulated over a Hate Beyond | Sabbaz style of attack. The latest releases are more distinctly Japanese sounding and the flow gains in stability, a little less labyrinthic but no less brutal and not really more accessible. Destruction has matured!
