28 years later!

The hottest heavy metal band on earth, Raven!!!! Since the day in 1983 my neuron made contact with the utramegacultosaurus Grandiose Masterpiece superpowered world class infinite force-unmovable king of all-things-hard-rock album All For One, I hadn't had the occasion to attend a Raven live experiment until yesterday night, ZERRRRRRRRrRRRrrrrrRRRRr!R!R!RrrR!R!R R !R !R RRR!R R!! !R!R R !R!R !R!R ! R r ! ! !RR! r!r ! ! ! ! ! Best show of the past years since Vulcain and (the true/Beehler) Exciter!!!!! It's incredible how much energy and power Raven still radiate in your general direction after a career of 37 years of such intense hard rock. And they are SO FUCKING GOOOOOOOD!!! Top class professionals with a constant smile! John Gallagher is the most powerful voice in the metal world, forget Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson! Of course they did play most of their classics from the first three records, and also some of the last albums, a couple from Nothing Exceeds, Life and Architect, but also surprisingly a great version of their attempt at a radio hit On And On.
Regarding their discography, of course the first 4 LPs are just unbelievable classics full of the customized and augmented mix of Motörhead | Judas priest | Anvil that they've been brewing since 1974. No real rock fan can live without these albums or he will be laughed at until the 7th generation. Live At The Inferno is one of the very best metal live record ever released on par with Unleashed In The East and No Sleep Til Hammersmith. Then in 85 and 86, they tried to sell their butts to Atlantic and released the two horrible TV-radio-targeted Stay Hard and The Pack Is Back (I did not even dare to rip my LPs, just took the above rips from a torrent). After that failure of becoming millionaires like Lars Ulrich, they returned for a string of totally rocking albums up to 2009 and the red hot Walk Through Fire and lived happily ever after doing real hard rock for the smaller crowds of truer fans. Raven amen.
RAVEN ROCK TIL YOU ZERRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrRrrr !R!R Rr !R r R!RRRRR Rr R R!R! !R R r RR!R r r! RRRRR!!!!r!!!! RRR R!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! !RRR r R rRRRR R!!!!

AMEN!

SODOM!!!! The word, the sound, the zer. It was the exciting time after the initial shock of Venom | Exciter | Slayer | Anvil | Metallica, 27 years ago... In The Sign Of Evil was really pushing it to a limit, I couldn't believe my ears, it was even more evil sounding than Kreator, Bathory, Discharge and Destruction combined. That was the fastest and heaviest and scariest thing I had ever heard, zer yeah!!! Long story short, Sodom have ruled the thrash metal world for 3 decades and they remain at the very top of the EZTT. Favorite albums ? Very difficult to decide, but Get What You Deserve is a particular darling of mine with its Pungent Stench vibe - lyrically, musically and graphically, and it sports a Venom cover. The last two studio albums sound A LOT like Slayer and are somehow less virulent than the rest, but still very excellent. The 2007 "Final Sign" rerecorded version of the 1984 material is a major failure if you ask me and is the only negative spot in this killer discography. Forget it and submit to the rest of the merciless attack of the legend of SODOM!!!!!!

CD rip except Expurse Of Sodomy, Final Sign Of Evil Tour (useless compilation stolen on another blog) and :

In The Sign Of Sodom - Sodomaniac Tribute :
A1 Toxic Holocaust - Outbreak Of Evil

Nursery Crimes

What Do You Know Anyway?, 1990
Fun Hurts!, 1992
Before the next massive 80s German thrash metal post, let's clean-up the aural conduits with the two super excellent albums by Australia's Nursery Crimes. These guys are the musical ancestors of the hard rock'n'punk'n'rolling of today (Turbonegro and the likes), at the level of early classic Hard-Ons | DI | NoFx | The Vandals | Goo Goo Dolls. Super catchy fast double-bass velocity harmonized punk rock form down under, zer yeah!
CD rip. Fun Hurts! features the best Beatles' Eleanor Rigby version ever!

Erosion

Mortal Agony, 1988
Thoughts, 1989
Gunman MCD, 1991
III, 1992
Down, 1995
I'll take the liberty to indulge once more in a mighty reload of... German 80s thrash metal madnesssssss!!! The previous Erosion posts were separated, also I recently found a CD of the Thoughts album, plus the Gunman mcd, and finally I re-ripped the Mortal Agony LP (louder, cleaner) - so here comes a better Erosion post, totally mandatory for this incredible band. Like the living gods Eisenvater, Erosion were on We Bite records (HC/punk indie label, not very metal oriented), maybe that's why both bands did not have the impact they really should have. Erosion delivered some of the most intense thrash metal I ever heard, German or otherwise: a hard-on inducing, technical, violent, frantic mix of Holy Moses | Attitude Adjustment | Faff-Bey that I personally rank higher than Destruction or Kreator. The "Down" album has a darker "post-NYHC" vibe in the vein of Mindwar or of the last Warpath album. The EZTT contains at least the "III" album because this one is an extra big ass thrash attack of universal size in many dimensions and features the totally monstrous track "70th Floor" (which 1st version also appears on the Gunman mcd), arrrghhhhhh. It's a repost but I had to rewrite all this because Erosion FUCKING RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Columbus Feeling, 2010
The demo
Spermbirds/ Walter Elf split, 1985 (Spermbirds tracks also available on the Something To Prove CD)

Big fat nostalgiaaaaa repost! My previous Spermbirds posts were stupidly disseminated and several rips were removed from mediafire, so here is now the rejuvenated and gathered catalog of the masters of 80s German punk rock, including the new excellent 2010 album "A Columbus Feeling" - a fresh take on their root sound - and the CD rip of the immense "Common Thread". Hard to say what is their best release, it's all great from the mega classic "Something To Prove" to the last two classic sounding reunion albums, via the darker "Common Thread", the shining "Eating Glass" and the amazome double live that features both singers, all the hits and plenty of the super excellent, more metallic sound of "Shit For Sale" and "Family Values". Family values: today Alice my oldest and largest and pinkest and Japanesest pierced daughter is turning 18 and I am just an old piece of mumbling meat, I need lots of youthful bombastic super catchy punk rock made by equally fossilized Germans! 18 très gros mutz pour un très gros bébé! Zer! Ach!
CD rip and some vinyl.
