When you need your black death to be polished yet dark, complex yet brutal, mature yet uncompromising, not without melodic layers, with actual bass tracks and with almost prog song structures, you vote for Withered. This is advanced material. Although they are very different bands, I find a connection to StarGazer here. Withered offer the black metal, Withered offer the death metal, they add a crust of doom and they do everything perfectly well - also thanks to a very fine production style that keeps the whole thing coherent, entirely organic, almost live, with all the required dynamics and heaviness - they manage to make it sound dirty and clean at the same time, kudos. Love those bass lines! This is first grade music for the demanding metalhead, it deserves to be tagged as masterpiece. I still do not know which album is my favorite - maybe Grief Relic?
