1993 CD Album Adipocere Records - CD AR 010 02. Spina Bifida - Iter, 2015 CD EP Godeater Records - GRC029 If you are old and fat enough, you remember with a wide smile the doom death triumvirate of My Dying Bride | Anathema | Paradise Lost of 1990. There were challengers to the throne and Spina Bifida was leading the charge. Ziyadah indeed deserves praise of identical intensity for it is as funeral and as heavy as anything the triumvirate released. It is one of those innumerable underrated albums that fill the vaults of the Church. The EP from 2015 could have been released the week before or the month after the album: it drips tar and brings desolation just like its older brother, at the same crushing pace and with a similar production. Its lyrical themes only seems to have shifted to physics and the core of matter instead of dead witches, which is nice, although dead witches are always a great topic. Recording your music in a graveyard must be so much fun. Triplazering doom til death til everything becomes nothing! Remove brackets and unzip: [doom til rot] !ZER Spina Bifida ZER! |

So glad somebody is giving these guys the attention; they absolutely deserve it! Brute simple, heavy and hypnotically profound all at once. The recent EP really is a perfect continuation too.
